Building the yard…

A free semi truck backing simulator

Semi-Truck Backing Simulator puts you in a conventional long-hood sleeper tractor hooked to a 53-foot dry van. You start in the truck, ready to back up. The trailer is not glued to the tractor: it pivots on the fifth wheel and its rear axles track their own path, so it swings, off-tracks and jackknifes the way a real tractor-trailer does at yard speeds. Back it straight, steer it into an offset lane, put it square on the dock bumpers at a warehouse door, or tuck it between parked trailers at a truck stop.

Scoring

Each challenge is scored out of 100: 50 points for how accurately the trailer ends up in the bay (centered, square and at the stop line), 25 for avoiding contact, 15 for smooth control without jackknifing, and 10 for efficiency and pull-ups. Three stars need 90 points. Difficulty changes the help you get and how strict the scoring is, never how the truck turns.

Frequently asked questions

Is this an official CDL backing test?
No. It is a CDL-inspired practice game for learning how trailers respond. It is not a certification tool and it does not replace real training with a qualified instructor.
Why does the trailer go the opposite way when I back up?
When you reverse, the tractor pushes the front of the trailer sideways around the kingpin, so the trailer's rear swings the other way. Turn the wheel right and the trailer heads left.
Does it work on phones and tablets?
Yes, in portrait or landscape. Turn the on-screen steering wheel with one thumb while holding REV, FWD or BRAKE with the other.
Where is my progress saved?
Settings, lesson progress and personal bests stay in this browser. There is no account or online leaderboard.
